Our special needs collection
The Library recently added new materials called the “Special Needs Collection” to its shelves. One of the first public library collections in the metro Detroit area, this unique collection includes therapeutic and specially adapted toys, speech and language therapy cards, DVDs, music and activity CDs, CD ROMS, large print and Braille books, Hi-Low books and many fiction and nonfiction books for special needs kids, their parents and teachers. Funded by the Friends of the Bloomfield Township Public Library, new items are being added all the time! The Special Needs Story Box collection is one example of the many exciting special features of this unique collection. Special boxes contain a story and a collection of manipulative that correspond to the items mentioned in the story. A story box is a way for children with visual impairment to experience a story.
