Library Outreach Services

Having trouble getting to the library? Special Services available through the Bloomfield Township Public Library will let you receive library services even though you may not be able to come to the library yourself. You're eligible for service if you are temporarily or permanently confined to your home in Bloomfield Township. Residents of retirement homes, assisted-living facilities or nursing homes can receive service from the Bloomfield Township Public Library by calling (248) 642-5800.  This very special service is free of charge.  Here's what it can do for you:

Library by mail
We can send you books or other library material by mail.  We'll even provide you with a special mailing pouch so that you can return everything at no cost to you.
If you have a particular title in mind, just tell us and we'll send it out.  If you'd rather have us select material for you, we'll be glad to do the browsing.  Just let us know what you would enjoy - mystery, history, art, travel, romance novels, zoology, or any topic you can think of!  We'll keep a computerized record of what you've already received and send you new material each time you call.   You'll generally receive the material you've requested within a week.  To get books or other material by mail, call us at (248) 642-5800 or email us at askadult@btpl.org or click Ask Us.

Outreach to nursing and retirement facilities
Residents at nursing or retirement facilities in Bloomfield Township may request special visits from the Outreach Librarian.  The librarian will call you in advance to arrange a conventinet time for delivery.  When you've finished with those items, the librarian will stop to pick them up and deliver new items.  Please ask your Activities Director for more information or call Bloomfield Township Public Library at (248) 642-5800.

Large-print books
If your eyesight isn't as keen as it used to be, we can send you books published in large print, including many new bestsellers.

Information searches by telephone or via the Internet
If you need information of any kind, you can call Bloomfield Township Public Library at (248) 642-5800, or email us at askadult@btpl.org or click Ask Us.  We’ll look up the information you need and give you an answer over the telephone or online.  "Who was the first settler in Bloomfield Township?" "Where's the nearest poison control center?" "What's the difference between an antelope and a cantaloupe?" Virtually any question you ask is fair game to us.

Youth Services
Our Youth Services librarians would love to visit your school. We offer story times for preschool and kindergarten and for 1st – 6th grades. We also offer short, high energy book talks designed to excite children about books and reading. Library tours, story times, scout activities and book talks are offered to groups in our service area also.
Please call the Youth Services Department at (248) 642-5800, ext, 173 to schedule our assembly visit at your school or if you have any questions.
