Fall 2012 Story Times
You may notice some changes to our story times this fall. We have revamped all of them to meet the needs of our patrons better. Please read the descriptions below to determine which story time is the best fit for your child.
Bouncing Babies is for newborns through crawling age, with an adult. When you’re ready to bring your baby to the library, we’re ready with finger plays, music and bounces that introduce early literacy skills and make the library a familiar and comfortable place.
Movers and Shakers is for children who are up and moving, with an adult. We welcome children who are walking and are ready to participate in finger plays, take part in action rhymes, and engage in group activities.
Just Us Kids is for preschoolers who are old enough and independent enough to participate without a parent or caregiver. Great stories, lively movement, music, and more fill this story time.
Registration for the first session of fall story times begins Monday, August 20.
We Recommend…
It’s almost time to go back to school and we are ready with some excellent titles!
Mouse Loves School by Lauren Thompson is a lovely book in the Beginning to Read Section. It follows a mouse who stows away in a backpack as he learns about all the wonderful things that can be found at school. This is the perfect choice for preschoolers or kindergartners who may be a little nervous about what’s to come.
Back to School Again can be found in our Children’s DVD Collection. It includes two stories, both perfect for reducing any anxiety elementary school students may have about returning to school. The Teacher from the Black Lagoon is a comical look at a child who imagines the very worst about his new teacher. Shrinking Violet is about a painfully shy girl who gets chosen as the lead in the school play. The happy endings are sure to make kids eager for school to start again.
It’s the First Day of School…Forever by R.L Stine is about Artie, a boy entering middle school. When his first day is pretty disastrous, he is very upset to discover he seems to be stuck reliving it over and over again. Fans of Stine’s Goosebumps series will delight in this timely tale. It is available in both book and audiobook formats.
New AWE Computers
New to the Youth Room are two Touch Screen Computers from AWE. These machines have over 50 educational programs appropriate for ages 2-8. Children are naturally drawn to these AWE Computers because they are similar to other touch-screen electronics devices that many of our young patrons are already comfortable using. They can explore various programs on different subjects to learn skills, read stories, draw pictures, and so much more!
We would like to extend a great big thank you to the Friends of the Library for their generous donation that allowed us to replace two of our older AWE computers with these brand new ones.
