Highlights from the Kickoff
Everyone had a great time at the kickoff of the library's 50th Anniversary! There were 1960s outfits, singing, dancing, face-painting, and lots of reminiscing about the library's beginnings in 1964. The Beatles tribute band The Toppermost had everyone twisting and shouting in the aisles as the day drew to a close at this fun concert in the Community Room.
There is at least one person who can say she's been with the library since the very beginning. Virginia Lee Smith, a resident of Bloomfield Township and the library's patron extraordinaire, has been a library supporter, user, and volunteer her whole life! She was on the very first Citizens' Library Committee and has been on every one since then. Virginia still volunteers at the library. Marcia Preston, Adult Services librarian, caught up with Virginia and asked her some questions about her involvement with the library. Watch the interview at Bloomfield Community TV.
The celebration continues with displays and events throughout the year. Save the date of October 18, 2014 for "A Night at the Library", a gala evening concluding our yearlong anniversary celebration. This ticketed event will feature live music, delicious food, drawings, and the chance to mingle with fellow library supporters. Watch the library's website for more details as they become available.
