It's the Law
Michigan law protects the confidentiality of Library users' records. The records and record of Library items you request or borrow can't be shared with anyone without your consent, unless ordered by a court of law. Copies of the Michigan Library Privacy Act are available upon request at the Circulation desk. A valid Library card must be presented for access to any Library records and record of a person - minor or adult - named on the card. Presenting a valid library card allows the cardholder the ability to check out items, view their account and pay their fees and fines. Without a valid card, the cardholder must show valid photo ID. If a parent or guardian wishes to look at the library record of a minor child, he or she must present the minor's card. If the parent or the guardian does not have the minor's library card, he or she must present a valid photo ID with his or her name and current address on it.
