You may have noticed that there have been delays in getting new books and movies onto the library shelves and into your hands. Thank you for your patience! And a word of explanation…
In early October, Baker & Taylor, the library’s main supplier of books and other materials, stopped operating. (B&T was positioned to be sold to another wholesaler, but the deal fell through.) The sudden shutdown meant that the library’s orders and backorders would not be filled. Staff worked quickly to make purchases from another supplier, Ingram — but Ingram is overwhelmed with an influx of new business from libraries.
Staff at Bloomfield Township Public Library continue to diligently work through the logistics of getting up and running with this new supplier. But a backlog of orders and shipments remains — and is affecting libraries and cardholders across the nation.
What now?
While systems and people work to catch up, this might be a good time to…
- Pick up a classic you’ve been meaning to read.
- Browse the Book Club collection at the library to see what buzzy picks you might have missed.
- Get set up on Libby and/or hoopla — digital platforms/apps that let you read and listen to books for free with your Bloomfield Township Public Library card. The current supply chain issues don’t impact e-book or audiobook production. (If you’d like help with Libby or hoopla, bring your device to the Adult & Teen Services desk.)
- Ask a librarian for reading suggestions: Stop at the Adult & Teen Services desk or complete this brief form to get a customized reading list.
If you’re waiting for new movies, you might use this as a chance to…
- Browse the library collections of feature films, TV shows, documentaries, and world films on DVD or Blu-ray.
- Get set up on Kanopy, hoopla, and/or myfilmfriend — digital platforms/apps that let you stream films, documentaries, and television shows for free with your Bloomfield Township Public Library card. (Kanopy also has the Great Courses.)
Again, thanks for your patience…and see you at the library!
