YOU WILL NEED:

  • A personal computer with an updated browser
  • An internet connection. Note: all hoopla items accessed via computer are streaming. Items cannot be downloaded.
  • A Bloomfield Township Public Library Card
  •  A valid email address

SETUP:

  • From our main library website, hover over the “Downloads” section on our menu bar, and select the type of material you wish to download. Then click Hoopla, or go directly to www.hoopladigital.com
    Create an account by clicking Get Started Today in the center of your screen.  Creating an account will require you to provide a valid email address, create a password, and provide your Bloomfield Township Library Card number located on the back of your library card.

BROWSE:

  • Type your request in the search bar at the top of the screen next to the icon of a magnifying glass. You may narrow the search by clicking the Everything dropdown menu to the left of the search bar, and selecting one category to limit the search.
  • Browse formats using the Browse link at the top of the screen and select the format you’d like to search through.
  • Hover your mouse over an item cover for a brief summary of the item, or click on an item to open a new page with full details.
  • Note: you can create a collection of items to borrow at a later date by clicking the Heart Icon within an item.  Access your Favorites list from the My Hoopla dropdown menu at the top left of your screen. Your Favorites list is the second option.

CHECKOUT:

  • Click the Borrow button, found either on the brief summary or the full detail page, to instantly check out an item.
  • Click the Play button to open the borrowed item. To access the item later, go to the My Hoopla dropdown menu (you must be logged in using the email address and password that you set up to create you account) and select Currently Borrowed. Click on the title to resume where you left off previously.
  • Enjoy!
  • Borrowed titles will be automatically returned when your lending period is over. The lending period differs for each type of material. There are no holds, wait lists, or late fees for any of hoopla’s content.

SUPPORT:

  • Note: depending on your browser and updates, you may need to install a plug-in called Widevine to play video content. Widevine is a free add-on for your browser that is owned by Google.

If you do not already have Widevine installed when you attempt to play a video title in your web browser, you will see a notification that will direct you to the Widevine website. From there you simply need to click on Install Now and follow the on screen prompts.

  • A smart device: phone, tablet television, etc.  Go to the Help Page on Hoopla’s main website to determine if your device will work with hoopla.
  • A Wireless Internet connection, or cellular data plan. Note: a wireless internet connection is strongly preferred to maintain media connectivity and avoid excess data use on personal data plans.
  • An up-to-date Bloomfield Township Public Library Card
  • A valid email address
  • The free hoopla app, available through the Apple App Store, Google Play, and Amazon Apps.

SETUP:

  • Install the free hoopla app from the appropriate app provider for your device.
  • Create an account using a using your Bloomfield Township Library Card, a valid email address, and by creating a password.
  • Note: to access hoopla on your television, there may be an additional step that includes entering a code that will be sent to you through a hoopla link. Hoopla’s Help Page, listed above, includes more info about this step.

BROWSE:

  • Search hoopla using the Magnifying Glass icon in the upper right on the hoopla home menu.
  • Browse formats  by clicking the format type and exploring items by genre, recommendations, featured highlights, and popular titles.  
  • Tap on an item to view full details.
  • Note: you can create a collection of items to borrow at a later date by tapping the Heart icon in the upper right corner on the screen when viewing an item.  You have successfully added an item to your Favorites list  when the heart appears to be filled in instead of outline. Access your Favorites list  from the top menu  on the home page.

CHECKOUT:

  • Tap the Borrow button to instantly check out the item.
  • Tap the Play button to open the borrowed item. To access the item later, go to the hoopla home screen (you must be logged in) and find the title listed on the Borrowed  heading. Tap on the title to resume where you left off previously.
  • Enjoy!
  • Borrowed items may be downloaded, giving you the ability to access items without a wireless internet connection once the items are fully downloaded.
  • Download an item by tapping the Download to your Device button or Tap here to Download button within an individual item.
  • Borrowed titles will be automatically returned when your lending period is over. The lending period differs for each type of material. There are no holds, wait lists, or late fees for any of hoopla’s content.
