A HIGHER LOYALTY: TRUTH, LIES, AND LEADERSHIP / James Comey

While this book got a lot of press in light of Comey’s firing, it’s actually an engaging and quite readable book about the merits of good leadership.  Comey deftly compares leadership styles of Presidents Bush, Obama and Trump respectively, and also his own time as FBI director.  And Comey is a decent writer!  His retelling of the Stellar Wind/ Ashcroft incident under the Bush White House reads like a political spy novel.  Even knowing how it ends, I was riveted every step of the way.  While the book does recount Comey’s thoughts on the Clinton emails and encounters with Donald Trump, it primarily focusses on his service with the FBI before those incidents would change his career path forever.   It will be interesting to see what Comey’s next step is professionally; after reading this book, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him start writing political thrillers.        Deb 6/6/2018
