The Bettencourt affair : the world’s richest woman and the scandal that rocked Paris / Tom Sancton

The rich behaving oddly and their sycophants behaving badly, should be the tagline for this book.  L’Oreal heiress, Liliane Bettencourt, the richest woman in the world, met a young writer, Francois-Marie Banier and during the course of their two decade friendship gave him close to $600 million dollars in gifts, art and property. When her daughter discovered the extent of the money given to Banier she instituted legal action against Banier.  The resulting scandal exposed the underbelly of France’s richest family.  It also exposed L’Oreal’s founders Nazi past and the political shenanigans involving President Nicolas Sarkozy.     Ann 11/102017
