Sara is a very quiet artist from a Muslim family, and Elizabeth is an extrovert who is interested in cooking and is from a Jewish family. As the two sixth-graders get to know more about each other in Sara’s mom’s cooking class, they discover they have much more in common than they might have thought. Their new friendship will be tested many times, though, by a racist bully, financial troubles, and family problems–can Sara and Elizabeth combine all their strengths into a recipe that will help everyone? Ages 9 and up.
