Mr. Yang is a math teacher at Bishop O’Dowd High School. Following the success of his first graphic novel, he decides to write about the high school’s basketball team, the Dragons, and their goal of winning the California State Championships. Yang follows the team throughout their whole season and interviews the players and their own personal struggles both on and off the court; coach Lou, and his past career with basketball; and he recounts his own cluelessness when it comes to basketball. Woven in are also Yang’s struggles to balance teaching, writing, and his family life. While this may be a biography, it is also a graphic novel and is incredibly funny. This book is appropriate for kids 14 and older.
