Maybe He Just Likes You

Maybe He Just Likes You / Barbara Dee

Seventh grader Mila is suddenly receiving a lot of attention from the boys on the basketball team and their friends – and she doesn’t like it. They keep touching her and ignoring her requests to leave her alone. The other students think she should be doing more to stop it, not understanding that the boys don’t care that she’s tried telling the boys “no.” Her best friend tells her she’s overreacting and that maybe the boys just like her. She tries to talk to a guidance counselor, but since he’s a male, she doesn’t feel comfortable going into detail. She also does not want to add to her mother’s stress by talking to her either. This is an important, age-appropriate book about harassment, missed opportunities by the adults in her life to help her, and the importance of speaking up. For children aged 10-14.
