11-year-old Jingwen moves from China to Australia with his mother and younger brother, Yanghao. Jingwen struggles to learn English, make friends, and see his mom and brother adjust to their new lives faster than he can. He copes with this by baking cakes with Yanghao; it helps him feel connected to his papa, he enjoys passing on his knowledge to Yanghao, and baking helps him escape for a while. Mama catches them and forbids them to bake cakes while she’s gone because someone could get hurt. However, the boys continue baking… A graphic novel about immigration, schools, belonging, and family. For children in grades 4-6.
