Samurai Rising is the true-life story of Minamoto Yositsune, a legendary twelfth-century Japanese samurai. His mother was a famed beauty pageant winner and his father was an overly ambitious samurai, who led a failed campaign that condemned most of his sons to death or monkhood. Yositsune was an infant when his father died, and a young child when he was sent to a monastery. He escaped with a merchant at age 15 and trained to become a warrior. He joined his older half-brother, who was a skilled politician, rose quickly to become a general and led successful campaigns against rival samurai families, in the face of impossible odds. Unfortunately, being a famous warrior does not lead to a long and happy life.
