Ada and her brother Jamie live with their Mam in a one-room apartment in 1930’s London. Ada, who was born with a clubfoot and has always been treated like garbage by her mother, has never been outside of this one room. With World War II looming over London, and the threats of bombings hanging heavy in the air, Ada escapes with her brother to the English countryside where their lives change forever. A great historical fiction novel with well-developed characters for readers ages 9 and up.
