Get more books into your life: listen to audiobooks! Listening doesn’t have to replace reading…it can be in addition to reading print or ebooks. Plus, the spoken-word format comes with lots of benefits. Read on to learn more.

Audiobooks…

  • are accessible: Listening to a story is a great choice for anyone with dyslexia, low vision, or another condition that makes reading a challenge.
  • are easy to understand: Professional narrators and actors read with emotion and give characters different voices, making a story vivid and memorable. Some works of nonfiction are narrated by the author, letting you hear the story from the source.
  • boost retention: Listening while following along with the printed book helps your brain store information in long-term memory — a great strategy for students!
  • make chores fly by: Listening to a great story makes housework and cleaning (more?) enjoyable.
  • can be a shared experience: Listening to a story with others (in the car, for example) provides you and your family or friends with a shared experience that you can talk about later.
  • are relaxing: Sometimes it’s hard to concentrate on the written word but listening to a book helps slow thoughts and even lets you close your eyes, helping you unwind.
  • help language learners: Listening to audiobooks builds fluency and improves pronunciation.
