Construction is underway and begins early each weekday morning, well before the library doors open. It ends at 3 p.m. daily, so if you’d like to visit the library when it’s quieter, plan to come then or on the weekend.
When you stop in, some things will look different; here’s a preview.
The new (temporary) setup
The library is now set up for Phase 1 of the renovation project. This phase includes the Café, the Youth Room, Circulation, Self-Hold Pickup, the Commons, the Magazine Room, and Local History—all walled off as construction work zones. Expected completion of Phase 1 is February 2027.
The entire Youth Services collection has been moved into the central part of the library and is ready for you to browse (see photos, farther down the page). Circulation is also relocated to the central part of the library.
For assistance, please stop at the Welcome Desk, just inside the entrance, or the Shared Service Desk (formerly the Adult & Teen Services Desk), in the middle of the library.

As soon as you enter the building, lobby signs help direct you.
Temporary walls have gone up to separate public spaces from the construction work. Magazines for adults and teens line the wall to the right as you enter.
One- and two-person booths are on the left side as you enter. Note: We’re sorry but booths are not connected to a power source. Since outlets are at a minimum, we recommend that you bring a fully charged device with you for study or work.
New releases for adult readers are where they were before the project began. You’ll also find staff picks here. The large print collection also remains where it was.
All of the Youth Services collection—books, DVDs, everything—has been moved into the area you know as Adult & Teen Services…but now it’s just the Everyone Services area. We can share.
While we’re on the topic of sharing…you’ll find youth and adult/teen librarians and circulation staff at one desk, in the center of the library: Look for the Shared Service Desk (formerly known as the Adult & Teen Services Desk).
Just past the desk: Newspapers and newsletters for adults and teens; youth magazines.
The holds pickup shelves are past the Shared Service Desk (where DVD new releases were). We’re also happy to deliver your holds curbside. Just follow the instructions on the signs in the parking lot.
Check out at the back of the Shared Service Desk. Circulation staff are ready to help you; there are also two self-checkout stations here. There’s another by Fiction, another near the Holds, and one in the Lobby. You can also check out items using the library app on your smartphone. If you need help downloading it or logging into your account, please ask at the Shared Service Desk.
Fiction, mysteries, and science fiction for adult readers remain where they were before Phase 1 began.
Nonfeature DVDs and nonfiction for adult readers are also where they were—in the stacks along the east side of the building. But items have been shifted, so please note the Dewey decimal signs. Feature DVDs and music CDs have moved—to the middle of nonfiction. Please ask a staff member for help finding what you’re looking for!
Books for teens are in the same area, along with tables and seating from the Commons.
The Computer Center is open for business as usual! Reserve a Study Room with your Bloomfield Township Public Library card.
Seating has been arranged wherever possible to provide spots to read and study.
