BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP PUBLIC LIBRARY TO HOST SUMMER READING WRAP UP PARTY

July 23, 2024

Bloomfield Township Public Library is pleased to announce Summer Reading Wrap Up: A Pirate Party for All Ages Friday, August 9, 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Participants are invited to wear their finest pirate attire and join the Library for a swashbuckling adventure filled with treasure hunts, games, and activities for the whole crew. Randy Kaplan, “king of the story-song,” will perform music for landlubbers and mates on the high seas. Oakland County Parks will also be at the event with an Inflatable Chaos Obstacle Course (designed for third graders and older) and an Inflatable Pirate Ship slide (designed for younger children). Socks are required.

“We have had a record number of participants in summer reading this year – in adults, teen, and youth. It’s great to see people of all ages find a passion for reading,” said Shayna Connolly, Adult Services Librarian. “This is also a reminder for those that registered for the summer reading program to record their readings in Beanstack. All reading and activities must be logged in by August 9, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. to be eligible for prizes,” she adds.

All are welcome to join the party. No registration is required.

BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP PUBLIC LIBRARY TO KICK OFF SUMMER READING PROGRAM

June 3, 2024

Bloomfield Township Public Library is pleased to launch Adventure Begins at Your Library, the summer reading program for all ages, from June 18–August 9. Children, teens, and adults are invited to discover the joy of reading for fun and adventure. All registrants are eligible to enter weekly drawings and win prizes.

All are welcome to join the Summer Reading Kickoff and Food Truck Rally the evening of Tuesday, June 18. From 5:00 p.m.–7:00 p.m., food trucks will be set up in the parking lot for patrons to purchase food and enjoy the Library terraces. From 5:30–7:00 p.m., patrons are invited to register for the reading challenge and engage in games and activities for all ages.

Bloomfield Township residents who register for the summer reading program can also take home a “Love my Library” lawn sign. Residents have the option to register their address with the Library Prize Patrol, which will drive by two homes per week. If the lawn sign is displayed, the Prize Patrol will ring the doorbell and the lucky recipient will receive a tote bag filled with prizes for their summer adventures!

“We are so excited about the summer reading program. Exploring books on topics of their own interest really helps students avoid the summer slide and read for pure enjoyment,” said Shayna Connolly, Adult Services Librarian. “Adults are also encouraged to join in the fun tracking their reading progress and entering to win prizes. We have a very exciting summer planned,” she adds.

Other summer events include scavenger hunts, a puzzle tournament, story times, concerts, and a pirate-themed summer reading wrap up party on August 9 from 2:00 p.m.–4:00 p.m.

Sign up for Adventure Begins at Your Library begins on Tuesday, June 18 in person or online at btpl.org/summer. All reading activities must be logged by August 9 to be eligible for prizes.
