Kwame is not ready to travel to Ghana for his grandmother’s celebration of life. He really misses his grandmother and listening to her stories but doesn’t feel like he fits in with his Ghanian relatives. The night before he is supposed to leave, a strange monkey-like creature steals his dashiki that he is supposed to wear at the celebration…the one his grandmother had made for him. So he must run after it and is stopped at the pier where the creature dives into the water holding it. A strange person there knows his name and tells him his life will change forever if he jumps into the Asamando, the Ghanaian underworld. How does this person know him and his grandmother. Did he really know who his grandmother was?
