There are lots of ways to zero in on the books that interest you. The first is to ask a librarian for a book recommendation—staff are avid readers and keep up on new releases and book reviews. We’re always happy to talk books! But you’ve got lots of other options….
Sign up for a monthly newsletter from the library featuring new fiction or new nonfiction.
Request personal recommendations via email. Just fill out a brief form to indicate your literary likes and dislikes; a librarian will custom-tailor a reading list for you!
Use your Bloomfield Township Library card number to log into NoveList, a user-friendly resource that lets you browse themed lists or use search terms to find fiction and nonfiction that’s right up your alley.
You might also check out these websites for readers:
- NPR’s Book We Love allows you to cross-pollinate genres, categories, and publication years. Looking for “Love and Romance” that is on “The Dark Side” and published recently? How about 2024’s Nicked by M. T. Anderson or Piglet by Lottie Hazell?
- Literary Hub’s Book Marks compiles book reviews from major publications and rates each as “pan,” “mixed,” “positive,” or “rave.” This is a great site for when you’re short on time.
- For finding “authors like ___,” Literature Map is a fantastic resource that is fun to use and for the visually minded. Enter “Emily Henry” and a word bubble will appear with the authors most similar in style clustered near the search term (Abby Jimenez and Sally Thorne), and those the least similar being far away (Sarah J. Maas).
If you’re looking for book reviews, try Kirkus for their honesty and The Guardian for longer-form insight and highlighting lesser-known and international authors.
Happy reading and see you at the library!
