What is Libby, the Library App?
Access popular ebooks, audiobooks, and magazines for free using your library card and this friendly, easy-to-use app from OverDrive.
Patrons may borrow up to 10 items at a time.
Accessing Libby
- Visit libbyapp.com or install “Libby, the Library App” free from the Apple App Store, the Google Play Store, the Windows Store, or the Amazon App Store.
- Follow the prompts to find the Bloomfield Township Public Library and enter your library card number and PIN.
Libby Basics
Navigating the App
Use the icons in the footer to navigate:
- Select the Library
to browse the Bloomfield Township Public Library collection, Metro Net Library Consortium.
- Select the stack of books
to find your Loans, Holds, and Tags.
- Select the tag
to view your Activity Timeline.
When you find an available ebook, audiobook, or magazine issue you want, select Borrow. By default, titles are automatically downloaded in the mobile app for offline use when connected to Wi-Fi. Tap Actions from your Shelf and Change Download Rules to change this setting.
Finding a Book or Audiobook
- Browse the lists on the home page, such as “newest,” “popular,” or “random.” Tap a format above your results to narrow your search. Select
to sort or limit your search further.
- Select the magnifying glass
in the footer to search for a title, author, or keyword. Use the Catalog Filters options and
to access advance searching.
- You can pin filters to automatically apply them to every list and search result. Apply a filter then select the applied filter and choose Pin Filter. Your settings will hold until you remove them.
Partner Libraries
What are Partner Libraries?
The Bloomfield Township Public Library, as part of the Metro Net Library Consortium, has partnerships with other libraries in Michigan to allow you to borrow items from their Libby collections using your Bloomfield Township Public Library card.
Note: Some partner libraries may place limits on visiting library cards. For example, when you visit a partner library, you may have a lower checkout limit, lower priority for holds, or the inability to place holds.
Adding Partner Libraries in Libby
- Select the three lines in the footer to open the Menu.
- Choose Add Library, under “Your Libraries.”
- Search for a participating partner library from the list and open it.
- Select Sign In With My Card.
- Under “Partner Libraries,” choose MNLC – Bloomfield Township Public Library from the list and sign in.
Repeat these steps for each partner library.

Libby & Kindle
You can read most Libby books on a Kindle ereader or app.
Note: The Libby app is available for Kindle Fire devices.
- Follow the instructions above for getting started with Libby.
- Find an available Kindle book to borrow.
- Browse Kindle books by using the Kindle catalog filter.
- Select Read With… and choose Kindle.
- If you are not given this option, use the three lines in the footer to access the menu and select Read Books With… and then Kindle or I Have No Preference.
- Sign in to your Amazon account if prompted.
- Select Get Library Book.
- The ebook will appear in all Kindle apps and devices associated with your Amazon account and will expire on your due date.
