Bloomfield Township Public Library is pleased to launch Color Our World, the summer reading program for all ages, from June 17–August 8. Children, teens, and adults are invited to fill their summer with brilliant books, hands-on creativity, and a palette of exciting prizes.
All are welcome to join the Summer Reading Kickoff and Food Truck Rally the evening of Tuesday, June 17. From 5 p.m.–8 p.m., food trucks will be set up in the parking lot for patrons to purchase food and enjoy their treats on the Library terraces. From 5:30 p.m.–7:30 p.m., patrons are invited to register for the reading challenge and engage in games and activities for all ages. Overflow parking will be available from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church with a continuously-running shuttle service courtesy of Bloomfield Township Senior Services.
Bloomfield Township residents who register for the summer reading program can also take home a “Love My Library” lawn sign. Residents have the option to register their address with the Library Prize Patrol, which will drive by two homes per week. If the lawn sign is displayed, the Prize Patrol will ring the doorbell, and the lucky recipient will receive a tote bag filled with prizes to color their world!
“We are thrilled to kick off this year’s summer reading program. Reading is a powerful way to keep kids’ minds active and engaged, especially as they are reading books for enjoyment. Reading over the summer helps prevent the ‘summer slide’ and sets students up for success in the new school year. With great books and exciting events, there is something for everyone this summer,” said Shayna Connolly, Adult and Teen Services Librarian. “Adults are also encouraged to join in the fun tracking their reading progress and entering to win prizes. We have a very exciting summer planned,” she adds.
Other summer events include concerts, movie marathons, scavenger hunts, and many more events for all ages. A glow party themed summer reading wrap-up event will be held on Friday, August 8 from 2 p.m.–4 p.m.
Sign up for Color Our World begins on Tuesday, June 17 in person or online at btpl.org/summer. All reading activities must be logged by August 8 to be eligible for prizes.
