Digital platforms like hoopla and Libby are convenient for readers: They’re open 24/7; they’re completely portable—letting you take your library with you wherever you go; and they’ve got lots of great ebooks and audiobooks to choose from. (Libby also offers magazines; hoopla also offers movies and music.)
If you’re new to these platforms, start here with hoopla or start here with Libby.
Already a fan of hoopla or Libby? Use both!
It’s easy to stick with something that works, but your library staff recommends that you download and set up your Bloomfield Township Public Library card on both the hoopla and Libby apps. Why? Each platform offers a different collection of titles, and the book or audiobook you’re looking for may only be on one of them.
Behind the scenes, library staff can see that Libby users sometimes select “Notify me” when a title they’re interested in isn’t available on the platform. “Notify me” is what you see if Libby offers a title but the library hasn’t purchased it. When you select this option, you’re waiting for the library to add that title to our Libby collection. (Staff can’t see which borrowers selected to be notified, only that there’s interest in a title.) But titles that aren’t available on Libby are often available on hoopla—and vice versa!
It’s also worth noting that there’s never a wait, even for popular titles, on hoopla since the platform doesn’t limit how many people can borrow a title at once.
Bottom line
If you read ebooks or listen to audiobooks, use both hoopla and Libby! And be sure to check both apps for titles you’re interested in.
If you’d like help with either service, please bring your device and library card to the Adult & Teen Services desk.
Happy reading!
